Courtney and Clayton first approached me about their elopement in Yankee Boy Basin without knowing much about where to have their elopement or what to do during their elopement day. They just knew they wanted incredible mountain scenery and to share an adventure with a handful of their loved ones as everyone would be traveling from the Midwest for the celebration. As we narrowed in on the San Juan mountains, they ultimately settled on Yankee Boy Basin outside Ouray and hired a Jeep tour company to guide us through the rough mountain passes to the best scenery around!
The two first met at a wedding, a happenstance meeting that ended with sharing tequila shots and plans to get together again soon. In order to honor this chance meeting they and their loved ones shared a tequila shot as their “unity ceremony” of sorts after the vows! Adding something into your ceremony that ties together something meaningful to your love story is a win in my book. The campsite we used for the ceremony overlooked some iconic waterfalls below, and the rim of mountains in all directions perfectly draped the background. After the ceremony we descended to those waterfalls for group photos and portraits before the three of us and the jeep driver separated from the group to do couples photos as the sun began to drop. I love jeep tours for elopement days as they take the stress off of you for transportation, and they can give your guests (if you’re having some) a fun experience of a tour while we finish photos before your dinner reservations!
