When you’re getting married over six hours from where you live, it’s necessary to cram as much wedding business as you can into your trips to your wedding town. Adrienne and Joe live on the front range, but share a special connection and roots in the San Juans. Their mutual love of the mountain range, even as they met across the state, was what drew them together and drew them to wed in Ouray.
Before we met up for their winter engagement in Ouray, Adrienne had her hair and makeup trial (a bonus for photos, heyyy!) and as we explored the Box Canyon area she mentioned how relieving it was to have done. Trials like that give you confidence in how you’ll look the day of, in the process, and in your hair and makeup artist(s). It’s really just one huge stress reliever! You don’t have to wonder if things will go right, if you’ll look like a raccoon, or if you’ve planned enough time to get everything done. If you’re not already calling your hair/makeup team to schedule a trial run, you should stop reading and do it now!
The funny thing was, as we made our way out to Ridgway for those amazing San Juan views, it really hit me that engagement sessions are exactly like hair and makeup trials. Adrienne and Joe were able to see how we work together, know how nerdy and weird I am (ha) and really just relax knowing that I’ve got the day covered! They don’t have to worry about meeting me the day of, stressing about how pictures will go (hearing “I wasn’t sure what to expect, but this was actually pretty fun!” is music to my ears after a session!) and now they’re a bit more stress-free going into the wedding!
So not only was it so much fun to hear about their story, and do a “photography trial run” if you will, but they really reminded me just why I include an engagement session with every wedding collection! Joe and Adrienne, thank you for such a fun afternoon and trusting me to capture your love in the San Juans. I can’t wait for your wedding this summer!
