I'm based in Grand Junction, CO and capture the story & scenery of your favorite day. Serving Crested Butte, Ouray, Moab, Aspen and beyond!

Jesse & Ezra’s Vega Lake Micro Wedding was all about taking the traditions of a wedding they liked and letting all the rest go. They designed a day that reflected who they are as people, and the union of themselves into this marriage. I met up with the two of them at their vacation rental along Vega Lake on the side of the Grand Mesa – the 78 degree temperatures a welcome relief among the 100 degree days we’ve been having in Grand Junction. It’s so nice you can escape the heat within an hour’s drive from town!

Ezra had the most urbane emerald suit and fabulous dress shoes, complete with mismatched socks from the Awesome Socks Club (iykyk) and I have never felt more understood as I also never wear matching socks lol! Their mom helped them get dressed and put together the final details of their outfit. Jesse’s mom helped her into her dress, the tinsel in her hair perfectly glimmering in the sunlight like the waves on the lake in the distance.

They were walked out by their parents for the ceremony, led by a dear friend, and exchanged vows and rings before a handfasting ceremony. While their hands were tied together and Jesse couldn’t protest, Ezra had Sophie read a poem by E.E. Cummings. It is one of my favorite poems, and I’ll admit I teared up a bit!

i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear;and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
After the ceremony, we went down to the lake to explore the water and wildflowers for some portraits before coming back for pasta from Olive Garden for dinner. They shared a first dance and some parent dances, and then Jesse changed into the customized sweats her mother-in-law got the couple. I have had so many couples this year opt to change into comfy clothes during their micro wedding reception and I’m all about it! The whole point of doing a non-traditional wedding is to have the freedom to do things however you want. Be comfy, y’all!
Before I left for the evening, J&E lit a pair of joints in an informal unity ceremony moment and continued to dance and talk with their loved ones who witnessed the day’s event. A micro wedding really is the best blend of an elopement and more traditional wedding if you’re feeling torn between the two!
