Jessica & AJ’s Celestial Star Trek wedding at Sky Lake Events in Grand Junction was the most amazingly nerdy micro wedding. Their friends all leaned into the theme, sporting trekkie outfits (many of them as members of Starfleet) which gave us inspiration for some really fun time/space theme photos.
The pair spend a lot of their date nights together immersing themselves in science fiction shows and movies with worlds of deep, rich lore to lose themselves in. An obvious commonality between their favorites was space, and thus their celestial theme was born. AJ leaned into the Star Trek side with their attire much like the aforementioned guests, while Jessica came to the celebration adorned in the most magical starry dress, all the way down to her celestial nails and sparkly shoes that glittered like the night sky.
In classic Colorado spring weather, we were treated to all the seasons in one day. We started portrait time in bright, sunny, bluebird skies that quickly shifted to cloudy and windy. As the couple made their way into the ceremony, the skies opened up to small hail and a full blown snowstorm that kept us all laughing at its absurdity, having come out of nowhere. Birds around the lake offered another show in backdrop to the ceremony, with geese landing noisily in the water and even an Osprey flying low overhead with a large fish in tow! Between the weather and the wildlife, we were all laughing and crying throughout.
Exchanging personalized vows and dark celestial rings that their own space rover carried, the two were united, and Gareth their friend and officiant pointed out that their relationship could weather any storm – even this one. We opted for Plan B and held the reception inside where we enjoyed breakfast for dinner (what I also had for our wedding dinner – it’s honestly the best lol!) and the coolest starry cake with dino toppers. When I said amazingly nerdy, I wasn’t kidding! These details were EVERYTHING. Friends and family enjoyed chatting, gave speeches, and played games while the skies turned from snowstorm to one of the most incredible sunsets I’ve witnessed – a beautiful end to an amazing day.
