I'm based in Grand Junction, CO and capture the story & scenery of your favorite day. Serving Crested Butte, Ouray, Moab, Aspen and beyond!

Kaitlyn and Elias knew they didn’t resonate with a large traditional wedding. They love a good party though, and have some really deep connections with family and friends, so eloping wasn’t quite right either. Their colorful micro wedding at Powderhorn Mountain Resort was the perfect “goldilocks” middle ground that allowed them to relax, celebrate with dear friends, forego traditions that didn’t speak to them, and have the wedding day of their dreams on the Grand Mesa!

Powderhorn really is a local treasure for Grand Junction area wedding venues. This couple and Kaitlyn’s mom planned the big day from states away – and two separate states at that! – but between Summer, Powderhorn’s venue coordinator, and myself we were able to help answer their questions, plan the perfect timing, and bring the vision to life.

They had some folks from Texas where Kaitlyn’s mom lives do the flowers and WOW did they knock it out of the park! I’ve never seen such stunning colorful florals and I loved how well they paired with the freshly green aspen trees of the mountain.

The pair did couples’ photos before the ceremony so that they could spend the rest of the time enjoying the company of their guests, something I’m always on board with. It’s so common for photographers to encourage sunset photos (which, of course, I also love!) but that really doesn’t serve every couple. If you would rather stay immersed in the party for the evening, talk with your photographer about planning the timeline to allow time to get those portraits you’ll want to hold on to before the fun begins.

After the ceremony, where they shared a toast of cheers with all their guests, the group shared appetizers, reconnected, and enjoyed the amazing table numbers that featured the bride and groom at the age of the table’s number. This was a fun personalized touch that had everyone walking around to see them all!

Through the evening there was cake and cupcakes, dancing, and yard games on the new deck, and many guests enjoyed the fire pits as the cooler weather descended after the sun went down. It was a perfectly chill and fun evening! Take a peek at some of my favorites and get inspiration for your own colorful wedding at Powderhorn Mountain Resort:
