Erika and John’s Black Canyon Inn wedding in Estes Park was centered around the mountains they love so much. “We knew we wanted Estes Park, since we spent a lot of time up there and at Rocky Mountain National Park while we were dating.” With so many of their guests coming from out of town or out of state, it was like having a destination wedding in one of their favorite places.
I met up with the girls at the getting ready suite on site at The Boulders, the Black Canyon Inn’s newest venue space. With incredible light and plenty of room, it was a gorgeous space to play around with for details! I spotted Erika’s colorful bouquet she mentioned to me during planning. She and John are both graphic designers, and perfectly paired bright, vibrant florals with muted grey and black tones. It was simply stunning!
Their ceremony overlooked Lumpy Ridge on the horizon, giving me miniature Half Dome vibes. They shared personal vows to one another and exchanged rings. Right as we wrapped up formal photos, the rain that had been threatening us all afternoon came down — perfectly timed! The reception space was beautiful, complete with modern chandeliers and fire pits on the patio. The two shared a piece of cake, which Erika’s mom actually made! Adorning the table were the one thing Erika has had planned for her wedding for years: aspen tree candles. “When he passed I took them from his garage and kept them for my future wedding. I wasn’t even dating John yet at the time but I knew I wanted the candles!”
After one last dance as a group, the reception ended and everyone headed back to their cabins, leaving John and Erika alone on the dancefloor for their own private last song.
