When Jennifer and I were planning their engagement photos, we saw the forecast was supposed to be pretty chilly. She told me they had the idea to do campfire engagement photos for the session to keep warm during the shoot, and I was STOKED. Not only do I love a campfire, I think the coziness they add to the photos worked so perfectly for this chilly winter day. We headed out south of Grand Junction to BLM land where these two knew of a set of fire rings near the most incredible overlook. Their pup tagged along and was so patient despite being absolutely confused what the heck we were doing haha! Between sips of peppermint tea around the warm fire, we played around with the different amazing views of the backdrops and had a wonderful time in spite of the cold and winds.
I would definitely recommend a fire as a great way to keep warm on a winter shoot like this! It offers us time to slow down, hang out, and get to know each other while keeping the shoot low-key and fun. Be sure to bring extra water and the necessary supplies to put it out fully before leaving though! Take a peek at some of my favorite moments from their campfire engagement photos:
