When working with couples, I always guide them on the best times of day for lighting their portraits in the space we’re exploring. I, like many photographers, have a personal favorite time of day in sunset or sunrise, but that doesn’t always align with real couples and real schedules. For Rachel and Tommy we were in agreement that sunrise is a bit early but we did want to go out before their cake tasting for their fall wedding, and before the heat of the day caught up with us. I love this part of the Colorado National Monument for morning photos, so we did just that! We explored the cliffs as the sun rose in the sky, before it got to be a bit too bright for my taste – at which point we explored a slot canyon alcove that was SO MUCH FUN to play with for lighting. I think the light and dark images there might be some of my all time favorites! These two were up for anything and happy to let me do my weird little happy dances with the amazing light we got lol. I cannot wait for their big day at Powderhorn this fall! Take a peek at some faves from their morning photos on the Colorado National Monument:
