There’s something truly magical about witnessing a love story unfold in a way that feels both intentional and effortlessly unique. Veronica and Kyle’s celestial micro wedding at the Botanical Gardens was a celebration that beautifully intertwined their personalities, passions, and a deep sense of nostalgia. Inspired by the poetic words of E.E. Cummings—“Yours is the light by which my spirit’s born: – you are my sun, my moon, and all my stars”—their wedding day was a constellation of meaningful details, heartfelt moments, and playful surprises. As their photographer, I was lucky enough to document every glowing second, from their private first look in the lush rainforest room to the whimsical PB&J unity ceremony that left everyone smiling. If you’re considering a micro wedding at the Botanical Gardens or searching for inspiration to craft a day that feels truly your own, Veronica and Kyle’s story is sure to inspire.

The Magic of a Micro Wedding

Micro weddings have a special way of amplifying intimacy, authenticity, and genuine connection. For Veronica and Kyle, choosing a micro wedding was about stripping away the noise and focusing on what truly mattered: celebrating their love surrounded by their closest family and friends. With a guest list of just a few cherished people, every moment felt intentional and every interaction meaningful. The Botanical Gardens, with its serene pathways and vibrant flora, provided the perfect backdrop for a celebration that was both relaxed and so beautiful. There’s a freedom in a smaller guest list that allows couples to prioritize experiences over expectations, making space for creativity and heartfelt details that might otherwise get lost in a larger affair.

Crafting a Celestial Theme Rooted in Meaning

Veronica and Kyle’s celestial theme wasn’t just about pretty stars and moons—it was a reflection of their shared love for the night sky, poetry, and the feeling of being each other’s universe. Drawing inspiration from E.E. Cummings’ iconic quote, they wove celestial motifs into every part of their wedding. From starry table settings and moon-shaped decor to subtle nods in their attire, the theme brought every piece together. The couple even incorporated soft, dreamy colors—midnight blues, shimmering golds, and gentle creams—to evoke the feeling of being wrapped in a starlit sky. Each detail was thoughtfully chosen to tell their story, proving that a theme can be so much more than just aesthetics when it’s rooted in meaning.

As Veronica told me, “We really wanted as much of the wedding as possible to feel really intentional and meaningful for us specifically. Examples: The favors are the same candle we made to celebrate our first anniversary, we’re serving pizza because that’s what we had on our first date, we’re serving charcuterie cups that Kyle, the cheese guy, made himself. The bouquets have CO and CA native wildflowers mixed, since those are our home states.” Putting all these unique touches together with the string of the celestial theme made the most amazing tapestry for the day.

A First Look in the Rainforest Room

One of the most memorable moments of the day was Veronica and Kyle’s first look, set amidst the lush, tropical greenery of the Botanical Gardens’ rainforest room. The anticipation was palpable as Veronica approached Kyle, the air thick with the scent of blooming flowers and the gentle sound of water trickling nearby. Their reactions were nothing short of pure joy—a mix of happy tears, laughter, and quiet words exchanged just between the two of them. In that private oasis, it felt as though time stood still. As their photographer, I always encourage couples to carve out these quiet moments together, allowing them to soak in the reality of the day before the whirlwind begins.

A Unique Peanut Butter & Jelly Unity Ceremony

What truly set Veronica and Kyle’s wedding apart were the unique, personal touches that reflected their personalities and relationship. One of my favorites was their playful PB&J unity ceremony—a whimsical twist on the traditional unity ritual. Instead of lighting a candle or pouring sand, they made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich together, symbolizing the blending of their lives in a way that was both meaningful and delightfully fun. From custom celestial-inspired place cards to a cake adorned with shimmering sugar stars, every element felt like a reflection of who they are as a couple: creative, genuine, and joyfully non-traditional.

The Botanical Gardens as an Intimate Venue

The choice of venue played a huge role in shaping the atmosphere of Veronica and Kyle’s day. The Botanical Gardens offered a sense of tranquility and natural beauty that perfectly complemented their celestial theme. Sunlight filtered through the leaves, casting dappled patterns on the pathways, while bursts of color from blooming flowers added a vibrant touch to every photo. The gardens provided endless opportunities for stunning portraits and candid moments of connection. For couples seeking a venue that feels both intimate and awe-inspiring, the Botanical Gardens is a dream setting—especially for those who appreciate nature’s quiet grandeur.

Why a Micro Wedding Might Be Right for You

Veronica and Kyle’s celebration is a beautiful reminder that weddings don’t have to fit a mold to be meaningful. Micro weddings offer the freedom to focus on what matters most—whether that’s spending quality time with loved ones, infusing your day with personal touches, or simply savoring the experience without the stress of a massive event. If you’re a couple who values authenticity, adventure, and connection, a micro wedding at a unique venue like the Botanical Gardens could be the perfect fit. It allows you to create a day that feels genuinely yours, filled with memories you’ll treasure for a lifetime.

Veronica and Kyle’s celestial micro wedding at the Botanical Gardens was a celebration of love, creativity, and intentionality. Their story is proof that when you craft a wedding day that reflects who you are—whether through a meaningful theme, playful traditions, or an intimate guest list—the result is pure magic. If you’re dreaming of your own non-traditional, heartfelt celebration, I’d love to help you capture every starry-eyed moment. Here’s to love stories that shine as brightly as the night sky!
