Passing the triangle rock Daniel and I noted when first scoping out the location for the surprise proposal, I turned toward the cliff’s edge of the Colorado National Monument. Camera in hand I hid behind a juniper bush, pretending to photograph the scenery in case I was spotted. Not long after I took my place, I saw two figures up at the parking area. Daniel and Quinn began their hike down to the edge of the cliff to take in the sights. Daniel planned a date night of dinner in Fruita finished with watching the sunset (a favorite pastime of theirs) on the monument.
The two approached the edge and stood marveling at the tower rock pillars beneath them. From my hiding spot it felt like an eternity – I get so nervous! I could hear Daniel as he began to tell Quinn how much she means to him and how she’s changed his life. Soon he dropped to one knee and pulled out the ring! Through tears of joy, Quinn said yes to his proposal and they shared a hug. I might’ve had something in my eye as tears formed for me too – ha! She was so caught up in the moment that it wasn’t until Daniel told her I was there that Quinn finally spotted me. After all the tears were wiped away we explored the area for some portraits, ending with some beautiful sunset photos just before it fell behind the rocks of the monument. Take a peek at some of my favorite moments from their surprise proposal:
