When I moved to Grand Junction, no one I told about the move had really ever heard of it or knew anything about Western Colorado. Truthfully, the farthest I’d ever been West in Colorado was Glenwood Springs, so I understood why others didn’t have much knowledge either. After moving here and exploring the area, though, I quickly realized why this half of the state uses the phrase “west slope best slope” — I truly believe Western Colorado is the best place to get married! Here’s why:

Views

Easily my top reason Western Colorado is the best place to get married is the views. If you want a mountain backdrop that is quintessentially the “Rocky Mountains” you can’t beat the San Juans in my opinion! Telluride and Ouray are popular destinations for weddings and elopements, and the rugged, snow-capped peaks are easy to see why. If you want to explore the amazing venues in Telluride click here! There’s also backdrops like hundreds of alpine lakes, Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, ski resorts like Telluride, Aspen and Crested Butte, and wild public lands that make your vows feel so intimate.

Crowds

Speaking of your vows feeling intimate, another point why Western Colorado is the best place to get married are the crowds – or rather the lack thereof! As opposed to the Front Range, where you’re competing with tens of thousands of tourists for locations, venues and views, Western Colorado is largely underrated. As a result, you’ll have a great chance to book some of the most incredible venues in Colorado with much less competition, and your portrait time in the mountains will be surrounded by fewer tourist groups creeping in the background!

Variety

Western Colorado is the best place to get married also because of the variety of venues available to you. From classic Colorado ski resort towns, to Palisade’s wine country vineyard venues, to public lands in the middle of the wild mountains, to Gateway Canyons’ Moab-meets-Scottsdale desert oasis, and even Black Canyon of the Gunnison’s rich canyon views. There are so many different types of weddings that happen on the western slope.

Weather/Climate

Another prime reason Western Colorado is the best place to get married is the weather and climate. The western slope spans all kinds of elevations from more desert climates like Gateway Canyons Resort or the Colorado National Monument, to high elevation mountain towns like Crested Butte, Telluride and Aspen. We’ve got temperate climates in the Grand Valley like Palisade’s wineries and orchards. With this variety in weather and climate you can host a wedding in Western Colorado any season of the year!
