Chad and Savannah were married in a beautiful fall wedding in Crested Butte at the Mountain Wedding Garden. They both grew up in the small town of Gunnison, Colorado. Many locals can attest to a singular truth: if you grow up in the valley, everyone knows everyone. You are never really introduced. When they were 9 years old, Chad and Savannah played on the same baseball team; the Pirates. Savannah recalls, “I distinctly remember telling my dad about a boy named Chad—I didn’t like him much, because he wore white baseball pants to practice. Several years later, I found out that Chad was my best friend’s cousin. We often ran in the same family circles, with impromptu lunches in their grandparent’s’ kitchen or at holiday barbecues.”
Chad and Savannah were casual acquaintances through the years; throughout high school they would exchange brief, polite conversations that never lasted long. It didn’t take long for messages to evolve into morning study sessions at school, hugs in the parking lot, and a sincere exchange at Mochas Coffee House, where he first asked Savannah to be his girlfriend.
“We’ve been together ever since: through a year of distance after Chad left for college at Colorado School of Mines, living in different cities as I pursued a degree at University of Colorado Denver, and years of growing into ourselves as separate adults, side-by-side,” Savannah said.
“On our first date, Chad and I went on a walk around his neighborhood. We decided to go to a nearby park, where we laid on the grass and looked at the stars. Throughout our relationship, we’ve looked fondly back at that evening, and have ever since tried to pause to glance upward at night. This past November, we celebrated our 5 year anniversary in Winter Park, Colorado. We went out to dinner, then Chad suggested that we find somewhere to look at the stars, just like we did on our first date. Once we drove around, nearly got his Jeep stuck in the mud, and found a private park, we peered at the stars through the darkness. Chad then knelt down on one knee, and very sweetly said, “We started looking at the stars 5 years ago. Will you keep looking at them with me for the rest of our lives?” I instantly said yes, and we had a new memory to celebrate.”
Chad and Savannah decorated the Mountain Wedding Garden in Crested Butte in a beautiful autumn color palette of marsala red, gold, blush and champagne. They really gave the space a rustic yet elegant vibe! Instead of a cake, these two treated their guests to a mini donut bar. As you know, I’m a sucker for donuts at weddings! It was great. Their seating for the reception was tailored around packets of cookies for each guest, wrapped in newspaper, with a handwritten note from the newlyweds with their seating assignment. They were so cute!
Unfortunately the local fox also thought they were great and took off with one of the packets while Ciera, with Lucky Penny Events, was setting up! At dinner that evening we got up close and personal with him again and I was able to snag a photo. We decided we’re naming him George… definitely makes for a fun story from the day.
Another great moment from the big day was the welcome before dinner. Rick, Savannah’s dad, joked that they had chosen the date so that she could be the favorite grandchild. As he spoke, Savannah walked one of the mini donuts from their donut bar with a candle in it up to her grandmother, whose birthday was that same day! Everyone sang happy birthday as she held back tears. Truly a great memory! Take a peek at some of my favorite moments from Chad & Savannah’s fall wedding in Crested Butte:
